There had been rumors circulating, the official news broke today: Jane Austen will become the new face of the 10-pound note in British currency! She will replace Charles Darwin in 2017. The final choice was down to Mark Carney, who is the incoming Bank of England governor.

It is a sad day, the anniversary of Jane Austen's death, on July 18, 1817. To commemorate the day -- and summer season -- The Telegraph has compiled excerpts from Jane Austen's letters that mention weather, including this bit from an 1808 letter to Cassandra: We breakfasted in the library this morning for the first time, and most of the party have been complaining all day of the heat; but Louisa and I feel alike as to weather, and are cool and comfortable. The statue is temporarily showcased in Hyde Park, London, and will tour the United Kingdom before settling in its final location in Lyme Park, Cheshire -- the very location where the scene was filmed!
