The Oregon-SW Washington Region gathered in the upstairs event room at the Hillsboro Public Library for a dual celebration of our region's 40th Anniversary and Jane Austen's 250th Birthday. Vonnie also organized this event with a gallery viewing of regional artifacts and photos and provided the announcements. Co-Founder Frank McClanahan served as Master of Ceremonies and provided a look back at our early years, memorable events, and reminisces. Another Co-Founder Mary Margaret Benson provided a History of JASNA and a Founding History of our region. Our other Co-Founder, Paula Stepankowsky provided our Toast to Jane Austen. Our Assistant Treasurer and Independent Scholar, Arnie Perlstein gave an insightful presentation on 40 Years of Jane Austen Scholarship in Persuasions.
Buffet dining with our first ever Birthday Sheet cake followed along with acknowledgements of life members, board members, and volunteers. All who attended helped set up this wonderful celebration. A special thank you to our kitchen crew: Marva Wiebe, Sylvia Foster, Linda Olson, Joann Graham, and Bobbie Halpenny for setting a beautiful buffet!
